Biography of Dave McIntosh

Dave McIntosh has loved music ever since his infancy in Bethlehem, PA, where he’d rock in the highchair to his grandfather’s World War I era recordings of John Philip Sousa marches and classics such as “The Yellow Rose of Texas”. He started playing the piano at the age of six, after his parents took him to the musical film, “South Pacific”, and his mother later found him picking out the show’s tunes on the family’s upright piano. Dave, along with most other young boys on the planet, fell in love with the guitar, starting out with the only stringed instruments he could lay his hands on: a cousin’s ukelele and his grandfather’s old mandolin. Throughout his teenage years, Dave played various styles of music, developing an early love of the Blues, Country, Motown, English Rock, Classical, and vocal harmonies. He took piano lessons and sang regularly in school choirs.

Dave entered his “soul searching” years as a teen where he experienced the deep loneliness and anguish of a young man’s quest for meaning, purpose, and fulfillment in life. During this time he made friends with some “Jesus People” who told him that Christ wanted to be in a living relationship with all of us, and not just a mental concept or object of belief. After initial resistance, Dave came to believe that this was the way to the life he’d been seeking. After reading the “Four Spiritual Laws” booklet , (by Campus Crusade for Christ), given to him by his college roommate, he prayed for the first time. He asked Jesus Christ to come in to his life, to forgive his sinful life, and to be his Lord from that day forward. This was the start of a new life for Dave, one of purpose, of eternal promise, and of long sought after peace of mind. This new life became the reason for Dave’s music, with which he seeks to share the ”pearl of great price” which he’s found. He has performed over the years since then at a wide variety of venues to every type of audience.

Dave traveled extensively on the East Coast in the 1980’s with the band, “Pilgrim”, when his songwriting began in earnest. Shortly thereafter he met Ed King, former guitarist with the Lynyrd Skynyrd band, co-writer and lead player on many of their hits including “Sweet Home Alabama”. Ed, who had also become a Christian, joined forces with Dave to produce their album of original songs entitled “Living Water”. Dave produced his latest CD, “Perfect Place”, in his own New Jersey studio.

Dave aims to communicate his spiritual journey from his former darkness to the light of the abundant life he now knows. His concerts feature his own music and songs by other writers which he thinks are especially worth sharing. He performs a wide variety of musical styles with vocals, keyboards and guitars. He uses hymns, country, rock, classical, and folk music to carry the message of Christ, reflecting his love of many cultural, geographical, and historical genres.

Jesus told the Gadarene demoniac which He had healed to, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” Dave takes this as his own mission, to reach the lost, the lonely, and the searching with the good news of Jesus.
